On-board computer in a car from China

On-board computer from a Chinese store. Hello everyone. Before the New Year, I made a small review about the Bluetooth OBD II scanner on ELM 327. I will not describe the reason for a long time, I will just remind you that I had the engine installed and at the service station using the OBD II adapter they found me the reason and for this they asked for money as much as the adapter .

And then I set out to buy myself such a scanner from China. And I bought it. Everything works fine, but there is a slight inconvenience you need to have a laptop at hand.

2017 came and while looking through the products on Ali I came across an On-board computer from China that connects to the car in exactly the same way as the Bluetooth OBD II scanner on ELM 327 from China and performs exactly the same functions but does not require a laptop or computer to be connected .

And if you speak about garlic, I have long wanted to have on board some kind of on-board computer to know the mains voltage, what kind of battery charge, in what condition the generator, fuel consumption, etc. And so I came across Ali on this device from China, which seems to combine all my requests and wishes, and plus can detect and then decode error codes with the ability to erase them.

I will not load you with tactical, technical and dimensional and weight data, I will only say that for such money and with such functionality, you are unlikely to find something, something like that. The device itself is slightly larger than a matchbox and can be placed on the torpedo in any place convenient for you, and despite the fact that the OLED display is 220x180, all readings are clearly visible.

In addition, the Chinese car on-board computer has a light sensor (on the rear panel) that changes the brightness of the display, which is especially important when driving at night.

A Chinese computer in a car is connected with only one cable (flat and rather rigid) to the OBD connector, and is installed on the panel in any convenient place using double-sided tape (included in the kit).

In the main mode, four configurable parameters are constantly displayed on the screen:

  • large numbers - speed (can be changed to: instantaneous consumption, average consumption, odometer, tachometer, coolant temperature or mains voltage);
  • (2, 3) in small digits lower - coolant temperature and on-board network voltage (for these items you can display any of the parameters included in the OBD protocol);
  • (4) scale on the bottom - instant fuel consumption (can be changed to a tachometer).

Control is performed by a three-position joystick (wheel) combined with the button. Moving the cursor through the menu (up and down) is done by moving the joystick (scrolling) to the right or left, activating the selected one by short pressing, returning to the previous position by “long” pressing (about 1 second). This is where the drawback surfaced: the joystick wheel is recessed into the device case in its lower base, and although there is a technological cut-out at the bottom, it becomes not very convenient to operate the device when the device is installed on a horizontal panel.

When you turn on the device for the first time, it takes about a minute to diagnose your car and then the main menu turns on. After that, for correct operation, you need to set the engine size and fuel type.

Pros:
1. Functionality, incl. the ability to reset errors in the ECU.
2. Convenience of placement and connection (free cigarette lighter)
3. Intuitive control.

Cons:
1. Incomprehensible instruction.
2. Some knowledge of English is required during operation.
3. Some inconvenience of using the joystick when fixed to horizontal surface.

Sentence:
If someone dreams of a good on-board computer with rich functionality and the ability to reset errors in the ECU, and is a little familiar with English - Chinese stores will help you.
