Tax and customs when buying in China
Taxation and customs duties can be a problem to deal with. Although rare, but necessary.
No action is required to inform customs about your purchases. The process, in principle, takes place in a semi-automatic mode. Sometimes, even if the parcel falls under the customs declaration, due to their incredible amount, it can simply be passed without inspection.
If, nevertheless, this happened, the cost of customs duties when buying in China depends on the type of goods ordered and the value of the goods. A complete list of possible cases is beyond the scope of this article. Roughly speaking, there are three possible options:
1. The order amount does not exceed the maximum allowed for import in your country. In this case, the amount you paid in the Chinese store will be final and no additional costs will be required.
2. ... The order amount exceeds the maximum import limit in your country. In this case, as a rule, the customs officers of your country will contact you and you will already receive additional instructions on how to pay duties, taxes and so on. If your order from China is delivered by paid international couriers such as EMS, DHL, TNT, FedEX, then all additional costs will be charged from you upon receipt of the goods.
3. Your order, regardless of the cost of the parcel, contains prohibited items for import into your country: tobacco, cigarettes, alcohol, batteries, and so on. Lists of substances prohibited for import into the country are easy to find on the Internet.
Please note that the cost of taxation of parcels from China, import conditions, import procedures may differ dramatically depending on the legislation of your country
What is the likelihood that a package from China will be delayed by customs?
For the countries of the European Union and other civilized countries of the world, the probability of detention for one reason or another is 99%. For us, CIS employees, the probability is very small, only in case of obvious violations. Let's just say, they would rather steal something than punish. Nobody messes with customs. For 3 years of shopping in China, my parcel was opened only once and then for repackaging, since the original packaging was broken.
